Searching Cases by Name
re:SearchTX is the statewide starting point for an electronic Kinney County case search. A public user must register or log in. The interface supports Cases and Hearings, with queries involving a party, attorney, judicial officer, or case information. Wildcards work in certain name fields according to the official guide. Broad searches can return unrelated people, so narrow by court, Kinney County, and a useful date range.
- Open re:SearchTX and create an account or sign in.
- Choose Cases or Hearings, then select the relevant search type.
- Enter the last name and first name as accurately as possible. Use a supported wildcard only when needed.
- Limit the county to Kinney and select the likely court or case information filters.
- Sort by filed date or case number, open a plausible result, and compare its court and parties.
- Confirm the match with the local clerk before relying on status or requesting copies.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name or party | Text | Depends on search | Careful spelling reduces unrelated matches; some fields support wildcards. |
| Court and county | Selection | No | Select Kinney County and the likely court to narrow results. |
| Case information | Search criteria | No | Use known case facts rather than a broad statewide query. |
| Date range | Date | No | A narrow filing or hearing window can improve a common-name search. |
re:SearchTX for Kinney Cases
The Cases and Hearings tabs answer different questions. A case description opens case details. A hearing type opens hearing details. Results can be sorted by newest filed date, oldest filed date, or case number. Depending on availability and account status, documents may be opened, saved, purchased, or added to a cart. Folders, alerts, exports, sharing, and related searches can help track a known public matter.
These tools do not prove completeness. Kinney County participation, historical range, court type, confidentiality, and document status can all affect what appears. Record the tab, county, court, date range, and terms used. That search log makes a later clerk inquiry much clearer.
Searching by Case Number
A known cause number is usually the strongest key because names can repeat or change. Kinney County's 2021 audit contains simple numeric examples such as 4716 and 4845. It also contains Fourth Court appellate formats such as 04-19-00714-CV. These examples show that trial and appellate identifiers differ. They do not establish one prefix or year-code pattern for every Kinney court.
Enter the number exactly first. If it fails, ask the County Clerk/District Clerk whether leading zeroes, a court prefix, a year segment, or punctuation is required. State the named court because the same official serves as County Clerk and District Clerk. Never force a district or county number into a guessed pattern. A federal format such as 5:26-cv-05660 belongs to the Western District system, not a Kinney state case.
Kinney Case Search Fallbacks
No complete public Kinney County case-search portal was confirmed beyond re:SearchTX. When an online query fails, contact Rick Alvarado's County Clerk/District Clerk office at 501 South Ann Street, P.O. Box 9, Brackettville, or call (830) 563-2521 Ext. 3. Name the court and request the case index, docket sheet, register of actions, or selected filings. Those are different products.
For countywide Justice Court matters, contact the Justice of the Peace at (830) 563-2881 or visit 207 E Spring Street. Brackettville Municipal Court can be reached at (830) 563-9823 for city citation matters. A written or mailed request should include the cause number, parties, court, approximate filing date, desired record, and preferred copy format. Ask for a cost estimate because Kinney County did not publish a complete court-copy fee schedule.
What a Case Search Returns
A Kinney County result may contain an index-level summary, hearing detail, or available documents. re:SearchTX can expose case, hearing, party, attorney, judicial-officer, filing, and document information when a participating clerk has supplied it and the record may lawfully be shown. A result row is not a certified file. Verify each value with the court of record, especially after a recent filing or reset.
| Case Number | The court's cause number, which should be used for verification. |
|---|---|
| Style / Parties | The caption or public party names, subject to redaction and access rules. |
| Case Type | The category, such as civil, criminal, family, or probate, if supplied. |
| Filed Date | The recorded filing date, useful for separating similar results. |
| Status | A displayed state such as open, closed, or disposed, subject to local confirmation. |
| Hearings and Filings | Public events or document entries supplied to the system. |
Kinney Search Tools Have Limits
Several official tools can look relevant while serving another purpose. TOPICs searches citations and notices using Name, Cause Number, Court/County, and Status. It is not a complete Kinney case database. The county Public Notices calendar posts docket-related events but has no party-name case search. The Kofile link on the County Clerk page covers deed books and an instrument register, not court cases.
eFileTexas is for filing and service. It is not the public search interface, and service-only filings may not appear in re:SearchTX. Use the filing system to submit authorized papers, not to infer the whole public record. This separation prevents a no-result screen in one system from being mistaken for proof that no case exists.
Statewide vs County Case Search
re:SearchTX is useful for a statewide electronic search across data supplied by participating clerks. Kinney County has no confirmed standalone public case database, so the “county” route means direct verification with the County Clerk/District Clerk or the responsible lower court. The Texas Judiciary states that the Office of Court Administration does not maintain individual case records and directs the public to local custodians.
| Statewide Portal | Kinney County Clerk or Court |
|---|---|
| Records supplied by participating clerks, subject to court and record limits. | A specific Kinney district, county, JP, or municipal matter. |
| Electronic case, hearing, filing, and document data where available. | Official status, local docket, copies, and clarification of missing results. |
| Best for a broad first search or known electronic cause number. | Best for verification, older files, copies, and records absent online. |
Federal Kinney Case Searches
Federal cases follow a separate path. Kinney County lies in the Del Rio Division of the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas. Search PACER or the nationwide PACER Case Locator, not re:SearchTX or the county calendar. CM/ECF is the federal filing system. PACER is the official source for federal docket access.
The Del Rio federal courthouse is at 111 East Broadway, Room L100, Del Rio, and its posted phone is (830) 703-2054. PACER pricing can change, so check its current official pricing page before buying documents. CourtListener may hold contributed federal material, but incomplete coverage means an absence there proves nothing. Federal appeals from the Western District go to the Fifth Circuit.
Kinney Calendar Search Limits
The county's Public Notices calendar can surface posted misdemeanor docket notices, but it does not offer a party-name search or a complete case index. Finding an event there does not reveal the whole filing history. Missing it does not prove there is no setting. Use the Kinney County court calendar process for date confirmation and the clerk for official case status.
Kinney Case Search Verification
Before treating two records as the same case, compare court, cause number, party names, filed date, and case type. Common names demand more care. Do not use private identifiers to force a match. If the portal and clerk information differ, give the clerk the precise search terms and date of the online result, then request the current docket entry or certified copy.
Kinney Case Search Costs
No complete Kinney County copy and certification fee schedule was found. Ask whether the charge covers a search, ordinary copy, certified copy, exemplification, postage, or electronic delivery. The clerk page lists check, credit card, money order, cashier's check, and Bureau Code 8410535, but that code is not proof of a universal case-search fee. re:SearchTX document prices also require a current portal check.
Kinney Case Search Requests
A precise clerk request should identify the court, cause number if known, party names, approximate filing period, and the exact item sought. State whether an electronic or paper copy is acceptable and whether certification is needed. That detail helps separate a docket sheet from the full file.
Access and Restricted Cases
A public Kinney County case search can be incomplete because law and court orders restrict some information. Juvenile records receive special protection under Texas Family Code Chapter 58. Sealed, expunged, family, medical, financial, and sensitive personal data may be hidden, redacted, or withheld. Texas civil rules also require redaction of specified sensitive data and provide a process for sealing covered civil records.
An empty result does not establish that a case never existed. It may reflect clerk participation, an older paper file, incorrect spelling, a municipal or JP matter outside returned coverage, delayed data, or lawful restriction. Ask the court of record what public information may be released and what proof is required for authorized access. Do not ask a clerk to bypass a seal or confidentiality rule. Certified copies and official status come from the custodian, not from a search-result screen.
