How to Search Civil Dockets
Start by naming the court. Major civil and family cases in Kinney County belong to the 63rd District Court. The constitutional County Court takes county-level matters within Texas limits. Small claims, debt claims, and evictions fall to the countywide Justice of the Peace. The state roster lists no separate statutory County Court at Law for Kinney County.
Need a public district or county case? Try re:SearchTX. You must register first. Once in, the system can display cases, hearings, parties, attorneys, officers, and filing data. Some documents appear where the local clerk has supplied them. Coverage of every Kinney County civil case type is not guaranteed. If nothing turns up, don't stop there. Reach the clerk or court by phone, email, mail, or at the counter.
- Identify the court and gather the cause number, party name, and likely filing date.
- Run a narrow county and court search in re:SearchTX.
- Compare the parties and dates before opening a result.
- Ask the proper clerk for the docket sheet or named filings if the result is incomplete.
- State whether a plain or certified copy is needed and request a cost estimate.
Kinney County Civil Docket Clerk Paths
Rick Alvarado serves as both Kinney County Clerk and District Clerk. One man, two jobs. The records, though, stay divided by court. Write your request clearly. Ask for a “63rd District Court civil docket,” a “constitutional County Court civil docket,” or a “probate file.” That wording keeps a clerk inquiry clear. It will not be read as a county recording request or some other public information ask.
The District Clerk page and the County Clerk page give the local route. Visit the office at 501 South Ann Street, Brackettville, TX 78832. Mail goes to P.O. Box 9, Brackettville, TX 78832-0009. Call (830) 563-2521 Ext. 3, fax (830) 563-2644, or email clerk.ralvarado@co.kinney.tx.us. Call ahead before arriving. County security guidance says staff can then let you through the courthouse security doors.
Note: One name, two pages. The same clerk name does not merge the district and county case indexes.
What a Civil Docket Shows
Think of a Kinney County civil docket as an event log. It can give you the case number, parties, case type, and filing dates. Motions, settings, orders, and any judgment or dismissal may appear too. One caution: an entry may only name a document. The pleading or signed order behind that title is a separate record. An online result may not let you download the file. Kinney County has no published sample civil case. Treat no local numbering pattern as universal.
| Cause number | The court's identifier; copy it exactly for later searches and requests. |
|---|---|
| Parties | Public plaintiff, defendant, petitioner, respondent, or estate names as allowed. |
| Filings | Petitions, answers, motions, notices, and other filed items by date and title. |
| Settings | Scheduled hearings or trial events that should be confirmed with the court. |
| Orders and result | Rulings, judgments, dismissals, or other public disposition entries. |
Say what you want when you ask. Want the event history? Request the “docket sheet” or “register of actions.” Need the text itself? Ask for the named pleading, order, judgment, or available case file. Certification is a separate service, so state that need up front.
Kinney County Civil Docket Portal Gaps
Kinney County posts no complete county civil search form or public sample result. A blank re:SearchTX result can stem from several causes. The cause could be coverage gaps, indexing, spelling, access limits, or date filters. A blank result is not an answer. It does not settle whether a Kinney County civil case exists. Save the filters and the date you searched. Hand those details to the clerk. Add the court and cause number if you know them.
Types of Civil Cases on the Docket
Jurisdiction decides where Kinney County civil cases land. Major contract, tort, property, and family matters can proceed in the 63rd District Court. State law gives it that power. The constitutional County Court takes county-level matters within its legal limits and serves as the main local probate path. The countywide JP keeps its own lower-value civil docket. Since jurisdiction turns on claim type and amount, the court named on the filing controls your search.
- District-level contract, tort, property, and other major civil suits
- Family matters filed in the district court, subject to added privacy limits
- County-level civil matters assigned to the constitutional County Court
- Probate and estate proceedings maintained through the County Clerk
- Small claims, debt claims, and eviction matters in the justice court
A probate notice on the county calendar is not the probate file. For the full picture, request the probate docket or permitted case documents from the County Clerk. Give the cause number, estate name, or approximate filing date.
Kinney County Civil Probate Dockets
Probate runs through the county court. Ask the County Clerk for a public probate docket or permitted file, using the estate name, cause number, or approximate filing date. The clerk page offers no dedicated probate search form or fee list. A calendar notice can be a useful lead, but it never replaces the court file.
Kinney County Civil Dockets Versus Records
Different Kinney County sources can touch the same dispute yet hold very different papers. The docket sheet is just a list of court events. A full civil file goes further. It holds pleadings, service papers, motions, orders, judgments, and public exhibits. The county foreclosure archive posts annual notices. But one notice never equals the whole foreclosure cause file. And the County Clerk's land-record links point to deed books and instruments. Those links do not reach civil court dockets.
| Resource | What it supplies | Where to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Civil docket | Chronological case events | Clerk of the filing court |
| Civil case file | Permitted pleadings and orders | Clerk of the filing court |
| Foreclosure notice | Posted notice, not the whole suit | County notice archive |
| Land record | Recorded deed or instrument | County Clerk recording index |
Say what you need before you pay. A search for a property instrument can miss a lawsuit, while a civil docket may leave out the full title history.
Kinney County Civil Docket Redactions
Redaction can keep a docket entry public. Sensitive content inside the filed paper itself stays hidden. Family records may also carry protective orders, sealed exhibits, financial facts, medical facts, or information about children. Ask only for the public portion you truly need. Then let the Kinney County court or clerk apply Rule 21c, Rule 76a, and any case-specific order.
Settings and Hearings on Civil Dockets
A civil setting can involve a motion, a status conference, or a temporary order. It might be a pretrial issue, a bench trial, a jury trial, or another court event. The docket may list the date and type. Appearance details can be left out. For a Kinney County civil setting, ask for the judge, time, and location. Also ask about the courtroom, hearing type, and whether remote attendance is allowed. The county posts no permanent public remote-hearing link.
A reset or continuance just moves the next hearing date. It decides nothing on the merits. Scheduling orders can also set deadlines that are not hearings. Always check the latest signed order and notice, then confirm with the court. The county Public Notices calendar does have a “dockets” category with Day, Week, Month, and Agenda views. But it works as a mixed notice board rather than a searchable civil case calendar.
Kinney County Civil Docket Copy Choices
The county publishes no complete court-copy fee schedule. So ask the clerk for an estimate before ordering a large file. Be specific about what you want. That means electronic or paper delivery, plain or certified copies, the docket sheet alone or the available file, and any mail or search service. The County Clerk accepts check, credit card, money order, and cashier's check. The District Clerk posts Certified Payments Bureau Code 8410535. That code is for payment, not a fee schedule.
Older official information described re:SearchTX document pricing. But portal charges can change and they are not county clerk fees. Confirm the current price inside the portal before you buy. A precise cause number and a short date range cut down clerk research. That also keeps you from paying for documents you do not need.
For a mailed or emailed request, include contact details. Ask how payment must be made. Do not send sensitive personal data unless the clerk says it is needed to locate the file.
Public Access to Civil Dockets
Many Kinney County civil docket entries are open. Yet public access does not mean every filed detail can appear online. Texas Rule of Civil Procedure 21c requires sensitive data to be redacted in covered filings. The rule also bars internet posting of documents containing such data. Protected identifiers can include Social Security and tax numbers, financial accounts, certain home addresses, and birth dates. A minor's name in a suit filed while that person was a minor is protected too. So an open docket and a fully public document are two different things.
Key rules:
Texas Rule of Judicial Administration 12 supplies a framework for access to covered judicial records, with exceptions.
Texas Rules of Civil Procedure 21c and 76a address sensitive data and the process for sealing covered civil records.
Texas Family Code Chapter 58 limits access to juvenile records.
Rule 76a begins with public access for covered civil court records. It then offers a motion and hearing process for sealing them. The clerk cannot bypass a seal, or release protected data, just because another docket entry is public.
Precise Kinney County Civil Docket Requests
A useful request names the court, cause number, parties, case type, and filing or setting date. For a past docket, give a date range and the court. If a case is missing online, mention the date and filters you used in re:SearchTX. Ask whether the record sits outside portal coverage, awaits indexing, exists only on paper, or is restricted.
Government Code Chapter 552, the Texas Public Information Act, covers many governmental-body records. Kinney County posts publicinformation@co.kinney.tx.us for county requests. Judicial case records can instead fall under court rules, statutes, and orders. These include Rule 12 and Rule 76a. A broad request sent to a general county address never replaces a proper request. Direct it to the clerk of the filing court.
Keep the scope practical. “Public docket sheet and final judgment” beats “all records.” The Kinney County court or clerk of record controls official access and certification.
